Personality👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇
👉To his dream👈 💦💦💦
A. He has ambition. He is not willing to accept his poor birth but tries his best to change it.
EXAMPLE: “He was a son of God--a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that--and he must be about His Father’s Business, the service of a vast, vulgar and meretricious beauty. So he invited just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen-year-old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception, he was faithful to the end.”
B. He is adamant. Because of his birth, his road to achieving his dream is much harder than others. However, he still keeps chasing his dream and uses his whole life for it.
EXAMPLE: "After he working for Cody, he does not get any money which is his trouble. However, he does not stop here but finds another way."
👉To people👈 ☺☺☺👭👬
A. He is sincere and kind to people.👭👬
B. He is romantic and sincere to his love. 💓
EXAMPLE: “He holds a lot of parties and did everything just for meeting Daisy and in such a long time, he just keeps loving Daisy and does not change."
However, he is still a dishonest and stubborn person!!!!!!🚫🚫🚫
He lies a lot in the story. 😱😱
However, he is still a dishonest and stubborn person!!!!!!🚫🚫🚫
He lies a lot in the story. 😱😱
👉He says he is born in a rich family to others. 👉He earns money in an illegal way.
EXAMPLE: “With an effort, I managed to restrain my incredulous laughter. The very phrases were worn so threadbare that they evoked no image except that of a turbaned ‘character’ leaking sawdust at every pore as he pursued a tiger through the Bois de Boulogne."
As well as, he is tooooo stubborn in his love because he also dies for who he loves.👿
I think when he first finds out Daisy’s true face that she is just for money💰, he needs to decrease his love and illusion to Daisy.
For me, this character is good>>>>>bad, because all his lies and stubbornness are for the love with Daisy.
His innocent aim shows his sincereness which is unique in this selfish and “dirty” society, which makes me appreciated.
📍Part 2 "My" American Dream
💫IN MY OPINION, the American dream means to achieve ideological prosperity and strength which shows that people have an optimistic attitude to their life. 💫
An optimistic attitude can lead people to believe the process and the result will be good👍👍👍 so that people dare to have dreams and struggle for it by facing and solving a lot of difficulties💦 because optimism tells them after the difficulty it will be a success.
This idea is from the main idea of the general American dream connecting with the environment nowadays.
=
The general American Dream is said that people can achieve their dream by their effort but not their class origin which is idealism and the main point of it is optimism because it transfers that effort can be equal to success but I think the American Dream at that time is focused on the material💰.
➕
As well as nowadays, because of the development of people’s minds and the development of the economy, their road to achieving their dream will be influenced by their class origin or gender👫less than before and people pay more attention to the ideological world. As a result, the strength of the mind also plays a vital role in this crucial society.
📍Part 3 The connection between Gatsby’s American Dream and “my”
American Dream
🎯One is when he is a child, He thinks he is a son of God. His dream is to break the class and advance to the highest hierarchy by his effort.
🎯The other one which occupies most of the story is after he fells in love with Daisy(green light). His dream is to have Daisy by trying his best to chase money and fame in order to have the right to have Daisy.
Example: “He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and far as I was from him I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward--and distinguished nothing except a single green light.”
👇👇
Compare with these two dreams-----We can find that there is the same place which is both of them are chasing the advance of the class.
Sooooo combines these two ideas------ The American Dream of Gatsby is chasing the class advance which is represented by Daisy🔥🔥🔥, which is really hard and even can say impossible for Gatsby who has poor birth in that society.
👇👇👇
In the book, Gatsby begins chasing his dream when he is teens. From making the schedule to practice🏃 and develop himself to work for Cody🏊 to be the soldiers to be the bootlegger🍺. He is still on the road to his dream, although there is a lot of failures, he still keeps his courage to change things in a better direction which needs powerful ideology.👍👍👍👍
👇👇👇👇
As a result,
Gatsby is an achiever💪💪 of “my” American Dream and I think that is why Gatsby is great because Gatsby knows his dream is hard to achieve because of his poor birth and the social natural at that time, but he still holds his most enthusiastic and sincere feeling to go on chasing the dream and challenge the fate and society by his strong ideology which gives him courage and to do it.
👀👀(Maybe you will be confused with “Gatsby knows his dream is hard”, and to be honest, this is also my guess.😜
Firstly, I think in that society, poor people will be more clear-headed than rich people because of their hard environment. For example, Gatsby knows he needs to become rich so that he can fall in love with Daisy so that he clearly knows the “rule” in this society. Secondly, after the party with Daisy, he has discovered the difference with Daisy because Daisy does not like his party but he still believes he can achieve his dream--get the love with Daisy back.)
📍Part 4 Does he achieve his dream?
👉In my perception, as I have said in last part that Gatsby is an achiever of "my" American Dream, I think he achieves his dream!!!!!👈
👉In the perception focusing on the book and plot. What is sad is that Gatsby does not achieve his dream.😱👈
The ending of Gatsby is truly sad😭😭😭. Gatsby is killed💀 by George because of misunderstanding that George thinks that the owner of the yellow car who is the “boyfriend” of her wife kills Myrtle in purpose, but the truth is that Gatsby has no relationship with Myrtle and the car is not driven by him at all. 😓😓😓Besides, at his funeral, there is just Nick and his father (It is a big👬 contraction 👭👬👫 that in his party there are a lot of people😓). Where is Daisy??? He does everything for Daisy because he loves Daisy. However, Daisy does not enter his funeral and even she moves to another place again with Tom. (whattttt??? She is who kills Myrtle.)
Actually, I think he fails in the earlier time and he also discovers it.💥💥
Gatsby knows he can not get love with Daisy back because he finds out his difference with Daisy long ago at the party. Daisy does not like his party because Gatsby’s party is different from the traditional parties which are held by old-money people. As well as the failure in the argument with Tom which Gatsby fails because of his poor class origin. THE DIFFERENCE IN CLASS is still a huge huge huge barrier in this relationship which. Gatsby can not advance and change although he uses his whole life to do it.
📍Part 5 Who needs to change?
💫In my opinion, society needs to change.
I think the effort of Gatsby is really hard💦💦 although a small part of it is illegal. Gatsby already has tried his best and he has a strong ideology, which I think is enough to advance the class. However, the society at that time overemphasizes the class origin 🙅🙅🙅🙅which is the reason why Gatsby can not achieve his dream. If society is truly equal to everyone, the fate of Gatsby will be different.😞😞
📍Part 6 The connection between Gatsby’s American Dream and Example
Gatsby is like the young horse in the advertisement.
Gatsby has a dream to advance the class and the youngest horse has a dream to move the wagon which needs to be pulled a group of adult horses.
They also both meet opportunities and chances.
Two adult horses help this young horse to pull the wagon. As well as, Gatsby meets Cody who gives him an opportunity to train himself although he does not get the true money and Wolfshiem who helps him truly earn money and become rich.
The result of them is different.
Pulling the wagon is just an action but what Gatsby wants to change is his past which is hard to be achieved just by money. The young horse achieves his dream. However, Gatsby’s dream is broken at last(in the layer of the book), because the society at that time is extremely hard for him to change his class.
